Project Two Reflection

Now that you've wrapped up on Project Two it's come time once again for a reflection.  What did you get out of the project?  Was this useful to you or a waste of time?  Do you feel it enhanced your development as a writer in any way?  Again, do not be afraid to be honest, because negative feedback will help us improve the project for future classes.  As usual, 250 word post up by Thursday night and 100 word response up by Sunday night.

  1. Project 2 actually seemed easier to me than Project 1. The prompt says differently but personally, it didn't seem to bad. I do believe that it was a very useful project though. It helped me realize that people with different opinions can actually provide very valid arguments to help back there opinions. Usually when I am arguing a point to somebody, I feel like I know that my side is the correct one, and I feel like the opposing views are not even worthy of being heard. This project helped me realize that this is not true. It also showed me that sometimes, you will find the opposing views' arguments to be so precise that it could even help sway your opinion toward the opposition. I also believe that it helped me develop as a writer because the way we were supposed to write this essay was formatted completely differently than I am used to. This essay was very similar to a persuasive essay because the ultimate goal of this paper was to sway the opposition to your side. But in a persuasive essay, you do not state the validity of the other side's argument. You just state your argument and why it is better than the other arguments. In a Rogerian argument, you do have to state the opposition's viewpoints as well as sources to help back their opinions. Then you go on by stating your side of the argument and explain why the others should switch to your viewpoints. So overall, I enjoyed completing project 2 because it seemed than project 1 and it helped me develop as a writer.

  2. I honestly think it helped us become better writers, but more than that, better at arguing. In high school, I was always taught to consider the opposing point and find a way to immediately dismiss it as wrong, otherwise it would not be useful to the argument or the paper. This is an entirely different way or writing papers for me. I had never spent so much time or space on a paper on the opposing side. Then again... I wasn't really prepared to have to take this class in the first place...
Anyway, this project was very different in that sense, and in this case different is good because it forced me to consider the opposing side more than ever... I don't feel too great about the paper itself because I'm not a strong writer, but I can always hope. The conclusion was the hardest part of the whole paper for me, because I was always told (even in AP language and literature) that you should always summarize in every paper's conclusion. It was particularly hard to find exactly what would work there without summarizing or just being plain repetitive. That is possibly the part where I lost the most points in the paper.
Even though I was forced to think about and consider the opposite side, I still don't agree with it, even in the slightest bit.

  3. This last paper was an assignment that I actually enjoyed and got a lot out of. I had never written a Rogerian argument before or even heard of a Rogerian argument before this assignment. I liked how both sides needed analyzing and were addressed in this style because your argument needed to be much stronger in order to properly convey your point. It made it slightly more difficult to make an argument but made the paper better in the process. After finishing my paper I felt better about it then any of my projects in English Composition one or two. I just felt that having to write in the Rogerian style made a better, more well-rounded paper. In the future for other classes I plan on using the Rogerian argument style because I believe it makes for a better paper and a better argument than the traditional argumentative paper. Now that I understand a different style of argumentative writing I most certainly plan on using it in the future because if a teacher were to see this style and recognize it I believe they would appreciate the paper and the argument that I am making much more. To me this project was much more helpful than project one because it was more enjoyable and helpful for future writing than project one. Overall project two was definitely helpful and much more entertaining of a paper to write.

  4. @cliz- I completely agree with your line saying that project 2 was easier than project 1. I completed this paper with ease and in almost no time while project one had many more difficulties. Also, this project also helped me in seeing that the other side also has many valid points and not all of them can be written off as stupid and useless. This was truly a helpful assignment that added to the arsenal of different writing styles. It is nice to know that there are many other writing styles that can help to convey the same point but in a different manner. It is always nice to break away from the normal writing styles and to venture into something new.

  5. Project 2 was something new that I have never done before when regarding a paper. Project 2 was somewhat difficult towards the beginning only because I had to change my normal writing pattern to the Rogerian argument. Once I got over this hump, it was fairly enjoyable to write because I was able to write about something that I could defend and I enjoy defending my thoughts and feelings. One of the hardest parts to do was the conclusion. Not being able to do the usual summarization was hard for me to get over. It took me a few times of trying different sentences put together to finally get something I liked but even then it was not the best conclusion that I have done. The biggest thing this paper did for me was that it defiantly made me a better writer. Anytime I do something out of my comfort zone is when I learn the most, cause then I am not just going through the normal motions, I actually have to think it through and come up with something good and thoughtful. Overall, although project 1 was a lot easier, I think project 2 was a much more beneficial to learn new things and made me progress as a writer very well. The only thing I would have preferred is doing at least one more pier review. Especially with something new that were doing, its nice to learn with your classmates and try to come up with good solutions with them and I believe that doing multiple pier reviews would have made the process somewhat smoother and easily understood.

  6. Project 2 was the first time I had to do an Rogerian Argument. Actually, before this class I never even heard of. I like the idea that we had to go outside the box and try to write a paper that also is understanding to the opposing side. I'm use to just defending my side and proving why they are wrong. It made me realize that everyone is different and there are many reasons why certain people may feel that way towards the topic. I like the idea that we had to do the project on a controversial movie, it made the project very interesting. Even though I had already seen the movie KIDS, I had to pay close attention to what the big deal was about and why this movie would offend people. I think it was a great idea that the project was introduced with Natural Born Killers. The movie gave me a great idea on what I was suppose to be looking for in my movie. I do feel like the project did enhance my writing skills because I'm being introduced to a form of writing I never wrote before. Although my project wasn't perfect, I'm glad I got to try something new.Overall I did like Project Two. I don't think it was a waste a time. It is not so challenging if you understand what you are suppose to be writing about. What I found challenging was to try and understand the other side and agree with why they would feel that way towards the movie. (:

  7. I really enjoyed working on project 2, even though I completely ruined my works cited page. I don't know if it was because I never took comp 1 that I haven't gotten the hang of MLA style or what.
Before project 2 I had never even heard of rogerian argument, so it was interesting to learn about a different style of argument. I also had never been into learning about controversial topics, especially in films, so being able to learn more about controversy was very interesting as well.
Having had to research both sides of the argument was something very different and I think it helped for a better argument as well as agreeing with the opposing side. This is what I liked about the Rogerian approach, and I hope to be able to use it in future papers.
Another thing I enjoyed about project 2 was the movie I chose to write my paper on , which was Man Bites Dog. It's a 1992 black and white film, and it's extremely violent.. I really enjoyed watching it though. Through project 2 I learned to appreciate the argumentative paper (I was never a big fan) because through the Rogerian approach I don't have to last out at the opposing side. I can try to understand that side in a calm manner, which helps make my side of the argument worth listening to.
Project 2 was much better than project 1 because it was a more interesting topic, and it was more effective in helping become a better writer overall.

  8. I found Project II tougher than the last due to the topic involved. Controversial films is not my cup of tea so to do an analysis on the points of view was hard to write about. I also found the arguments were really not as black and white as many make it out to be. Its like our political system, your either Republican or Democrat which is technically on either side of an argumentative spectrum. When you look at each issue there are overlapping issues that both parties support. That is how this project went, which tried to separate the issues into two clear arguments. In Triumph of the Will, yes the movie was political and yes it was a good cinematic film, but its the same beast just now one characteristic is put on level with another characteristic and then disputed.
The project was interesting though with using the Rogerian argument format. I had never heard of it before this project. That also was another source of pain for this project as it was really hard to provide a clear retort to the opposing viewpoint. With the Triumph of the Will, my opposing side had a really strong argument so it took some time to research good arguments for the artistic aspect of the film.
The last thing that made this project hard to digest was watching the movie itself. It was a 2 hour "Go Hitler!!" marathon. Marching and more marching. Speeches after speeches until you feel like you have learned German and couldn't care which side was right as none of them should have seen the movie in the first place.
So there. Glad its done. Ill move on and bury that film in history where it belongs.

  9. I enjoyed working on Project II much more than Project I. There were many things about Project II that I liked. First off, I have heard the term Rogerian argument before but I never really knew what it was, and I have never wrote one until Project II came up. I thought the Rogerian arugment format that you needed to use for this project was interesting and helped me see both sides of each argument and not just mine. I felt that this concept can be applied to many things in the real world and it was interesting to write about. My topic was an analysis on Super-Size Me and I have an EXTREMELY one-sided opinion/view on the issue and I thought the Rogerian argument helped me balance out both my argument and the opposing argument. Project II was a very easy write for me because I already knew my argument very well so it was all a matter of making sure the opposing argument had balance and I wasn't just overflowing the paper with my opinion and I felt I wrote an unbiased balanced paper. Overall, Project II helped me become a better writer and I liked the Rogerian style of writing and I would gladly write another paper using this format because change in writing style is nice one in a while. I didn’t dislike anything with Project II and personally in my opinion, I wouldn’t change anything about it. All students should have to write a “Rogerian” style paper at least once and I think all students would probably enjoy the change in writing style like I did because it is like a breath of fresh air.

  10. I believe project 2 was easier than project one. Project two was also a lot more fun, in my perspective. I enjoyed being able to pick a movie, and watch in numerous times to find the rhetoric in it. I also enjoyed reading about the opposing views and finding why they believe what they believe. This reading led to ways that I could try to counter argue their point and show that my point is not all that different from theirs. Granted, the actually writing of the Rogerian argument is a hard thing to do, and to do it well is even more difficult. The part where I had to validate the opposing argument was the hardest I believe. I had to put myself in their shoes and believe what they believed in that instant. This is not an easy concept, especially when I disagree with mostly all of the points that they are making. So having to tell them that their points are valid and make sense was not easy. Usually with arguments I would not have to tell the opposing side that I agree on some points but fundamentally disagree with their standpoint. And this is what the Rogerian argument called for. This I believe was the most difficult part of project two, but all in all I enjoyed watching the movie and doing the research on the controversy surrounding it. I also liked this project more than project one.

  11. Personally I loved project two. The movie I watched Do the Right Thing by Spike Lee was very good. At times I found myself having trouble watching it but once I got to the writing part I found it more and more interesting. I love when I watch a movie or read a book with the first initial thoughts, then rethink about it and look at it from a different angle. Originally I thought that there was only one way to look at everyone's intentions and actions. I feel like it really helped me as a writer and also as a movie watcher. In my film class this happens constantly but I am never the one making the realizations. This project put me to do those thing while working by myself and that helped me think more outside the box. Now when I'm in my film class watching films I noticed that I'm not only thinking what everyone else is initially thinking but deeper into their actions.
Writing a rogerian argument really developed me as a writer. I really had to choose my words wisely and be selective in my choices when talking about my opposition. It would hurt my paper if I used negative words when talking about the opposing side. Acknowledging the other side and not bashing it was a challenge. However once I was able to get to the point of supporting my own argument the words flowed out of me like water in a river. This assignment was a fun one because of how well I felt that I voiced my opinion and show my interpretation of the film.

  12. I thought project two was a very interesting concept. In my writing career I have been tasked with observing opposing points of view and addressing it in a rebuttal. I have never been tasked with validating and observing an opposing point of view and identifying with it. That’s what I think made project three a good learning experience for me. I was able to apply this new skill through my writing of project two. This project was not a waste of time at all because it introduced this completely different perspective that can really change an argument. Imagine a heated argument where the opposed party agrees with you? That’s why I really like this project. It can totally change your tone to make the opposition actually listen to what you’re saying, and even disprove their point when they attack you personally just telling you that you are stupid or ignorant. As a researcher I feel this project defiantly improved my development. It’s a totally different ball game when you are looking up facts on both points of view instead of just your own. As I researched A Clockwork Orange I was able to sympathize with those opposed to the film and their views and prospective, while still maintaining my stance and proving my point. This strategy could be used in all types of arguments and debates to deliver a more effective point and argument. Overall I really did like the project even though it was challenging.

I completely agree with you. I thought that idea of a different writing prospect and style opposed to the traditional argument. The Rogerian argument change what we would normally define as an argument in the conventional sense. I also agree that the project was a little easier and more clearly defined than project one was. It was also much less repetitive that the annotated bibliographies that we did in project one. But I also agree on how the paper was similar to project one’s response paper in that you were arguing for a point, but acknowledging the other side of the argument.

  14. Well, I liked this project a whole lot more than I liked project one. To me, project one was boring. Rogerian argumentation is tricky, since it requires a person to sympathize with the opposition (unheard of here in the United States). But I think for me it came a little more naturally than the average person since I’ve never really liked the classical structure of argumentation; it leaves no room for any comprise and it polarizes people: it makes them out to be more different than they really are. The film I picked, “Triumph of the Will” was boring as fuck, but I’ve always been interested in the Nazi’s and the Holocaust. I argued that the film’s pro-Nazi message did not take away from it as a piece of art. The shots and the techniques used in the movie were extremely innovative for their time and I honesty believe that Leni Riefenstahl’s motives were apolitical. I do understand, however, that the movie helped Hitler raise to power, and the content of the movie is not relatable at all; but as an artist myself, I can’t condone the censorship of such an influential film just because of its message. Obviously, aside from the neo-Nazis, no one agrees with the Nazis ideology. I think this project helped me develop a better style of writing; not so much grammatically, but conceptually. If I ever have to write an argumentative piece outside of this class, I’m going to use the Rogerian structure.

  15. I have to say that Project 2 was one of the most challenging writing assignments that I have had since I entered college. I had no idea what the professor meant when he said rogerian argument, and I was still confused even after he explained it. I chose to do my project on A Clockwork Orange, and the controversy surrounding the excessive use of violence in the movie. Although I liked the movie a lot, and kind of sympathized with the protagonist by the end of the film, I have to say that it was very violent. As I researched the controversy on the internet, I read about the different point of views that some critics had over the film. After reading the reviews, I learned that these critics had some valid points and that made the rest of my project very easy. It was like having a conversation with a friend about the best team in baseball, without calling him an idiot for disagreeing with my opinion. I have to say that writing this paper was a very rewarding experience. I feel that not only my writing skills have improved a lot, but also my argumentative skills. I liked this project much more than project 1. In this project, I got to express my point of view on an issue that happened many years ago, but still has relevance in today’s society. Now that I am done with project 2, all I can think about is doing project 3, which appears to be pretty cool.

  16. I actually enjoyed working on Project 2. It was nice not doing a classical persuasive or argument paper. I usually don’t really enjoy doing persuasive papers but the format of the Rogerian argument was interesting. I loved the idea of doing it on a film and not the classical social issue that most argument papers are on. I had never written a paper that was basically an attempt to get someone to see the merit in a film. Usually when I write papers on film it’s about the film techniques used or the plot development but this one was obviously a bit different. I had to research critical acclaims of the film and many different reviews and use those as my frame of reference. I had never heard of a Rogerian argument style before this paper and after being into contact with it I feel like it is more convincing and influential if arguments are approached in this way. It gives the opposition less of a reason to criticize you as a person but rather to only focus on you’re points. If you were just to talk about one side of the argument a common counterargument is that the person putting forth this idea is not well informed or they only know one point. This way if both views are presented one is more likely to see validity in your side if you have indicated that you can understand their point of view. With that being said I pretty much liked all the aspects of Project 2. I can’t think of anything that I can say I had a hard time doing or didn’t want to do.

  18. Project two, where do I start… Well this project was very difficult for me to start. When I first looked at the options to choose from of what movie we could write about, my reaction was “What??” I only know two of those movies on the list, because I’ve never seen or heard the rest of them. So I decided I would just write about the movie that I actually partially remember seeing, The Passion of the Christ. I was really confused in the beginning as to how I am suppose to write an argument to convince the opposition to take my side, by agreeing on their side. But as we started exploring the project more in class, then I started to understand. When I began to write the first draft, it all actually made sense. It also kind a helped ruled out anger out off the equation while making the argument. I mean have you ever just sat there and argued with someone until you both just knew that the debate was pointless? I know I have. It makes a person more intelligent and considerate when using the form of a Rogerian Argument if you’re trying to convince the other person to agree with your point of view. Moreover, with this project, I actually understood the reason and meaning behind the creation of the movie The Passion of Christ. I had my strong beliefs about the controversy, but after researching about this movie, my beliefs became more neutral. I know and understand why the controversy existed and how it could have been avoided, but I also comprehend how the controversy was necessary to prove a point. Overall project two was okay, but I don’t think it’s the best thing or paper that I ever wrote.

  19. The Rogerian Argument for a movie was a great idea and project for this class. I enjoyed the writing, and I think we can all learn a lot from this project. It helps us to realize the importance of good writers, and other people's opinions. Writing about the opposition was probably the most hardest part for me, because I didn't know what to say about them. I wanted the paper to be focused on my argument, and so my opposing side was weak. This project was useful because I got to understand the many different arguments and sides one person could take. This project could have enhanced my skills as a writer, but I need to work on my argument for the opposing side more to make the paper a lot more better. From the project, I am more caring towards opposing views, because they can only strengthen a person’s argument. When you hear an opposing view, there is more information that can be drawn about a certain subject than is thought from one person. Differing views always help others succeed in writing great papers, because a lot more information can be attained from an opposing view. Writing film papers are usually boring, but surprisingly, this paper was fun to write because it was about the controversial issues found within the movie. The other thing I liked about Project 2 was that it seemed easier to write than the first topic. I enjoy watching movies, therefore enjoy writing about them.

  20. At first I was a little confused with the Rogerian argument style. I thought it would confuse my reader if I didn’t explain myself right away instead of waiting until a whole different paragraph; I ended up contradicting myself throughout the entire paper. I chose a movie whose beliefs I greatly opposed thinking it would give me the upper hand but it was quite difficult. Although I’m not catholic like those in my chosen movie, Priest, I know that homosexuality is looked down upon in the majority of religions and churches. I ended up being too specific and attacking instead of explaining. However after I got the hang of it, it was a piece of cake. So far this has been my favorite project; I hate doing annotated bibs. I especially like this project because I had the opportunity to include my own opinions. I feel that my papers are better when I use my own insight as opposed to someone else’s, although more professional insights gives my paper credibility; this is probably why I dread doing research papers. Furthermore I feel that I can win arguments our at least get the opposing side to appreciate my side of view due to this project. Before, I never gave any consideration to why an opposing side believed the way they did but now I know that you have to consider their side of the argument, understand why they feel a certain way, THEN explain why your argument is more correct or is the better side.

  21. @Astrid I agree with you with arguments. This assignment really made me think carefully about wording and supporting the other side. It was a very time consuming and complex but at the same time, a lot of fun. It sucks that you were surprised by being in this class but sometimes you need to take things in strides and just roll with it. The assignment was given to us to help us grow and understand both sides of an argument. Classes like these are helpful for us as we go throughout college because no matter what we do we're always writing papers for those classes.

  22. I thought project 2 was very easy and I am satisfied with the grade I have in it. Like in all of the papers that I had to do in my life I did not enjoy writing it because it used up a lot of my time and I lacked sleep. But the assignment in general was not that difficult for me to do. I thought the first project was challenging for me because the topics were broad and in project 2 I was able to narrow a topic down in a list of movies to choose from. I liked project 2 a lot because I did not have a hard time writing about it like I did in project one. There were many sources to use for my movie because it was very popular unlike the first project. I had a better grade in the second project than the first and I hope to have an even better one on the last project. This project taught me that there are so many ways to view an issue and there are many different opinions about the topic. This project also gave me a better understanding of what a rogerian argument is because I was not clear about it before. This project also helped me become better in writing because it taught me how to structure and organize my paper better. I am glad that I now understand what it is like to write a rogerian argument because I like learning things that are interesting.

  23. I actually enjoyed Project two more than project one even though that it was a little bit harder. Although this was my first time ever writing or hearing of a rogation argument, I believe that it is a much better way to present an argument because it shows both sides rather than just giving the reader your opinions like you would in a persuasive essay. I honestly think that this project was very useful because it helped me take into consideration other people’s opinions and helped me understand why they think the way that they do. This project helped me better myself as a writer because it taught me how to write a paper that was not bias and that represented both sides of an argument instead of just presenting yours. Usually when I write an essay I only present my side of the argument because i want the reader to also be on my side but this project taught me that one must present both sides of the argument and let the reader decide which is best. Overall this project helped me better myself as a writer and a person because It showed me how to consider other peoples point of views rather than ignoring them and even thought this project was a bit more difficult than the first I enjoyed it a lot more because we got to watch Natural Born Killers and because we were able to choose the movie that we wanted.

  24. @ Glanderos:
I agree with what you said about the rogerian argument being a better way to present an argument, it shows that you have taken the opposite side into consideration and you're not just some ignorant person that ignores other people's views. This sort of thinking is very useful in real life.
Choosing the film was the easiest part for me - I have written enough papers against religious controversy to feel comfortable writing about the Last Temptation of Christ - and having the freedom to choose your topic really makes a difference.

I was a little confused as well when the Rogerian argument was first introduced to me. I feel like the exact same thing happened with me. When I started researching the opposing point of view, I found that it would be a little easier to write on the opposing side because I could recognize the validity of the argument. More so than my writing skills I feel like my argument skills have been improved greatly through project 2 as well. I’m not so much looking forward to project 3 because out of all of the project I feel like project 2 was the most interesting.

  26. @Carlos Fuenmayor. I completely agree with you that this project was a lot better than project one. I tried watching Triumph of the Will one day but I fell asleep twenty minutes after the film started, it was very boring. I consider that the argument that you made defending your film as a work of art, regardless of the content of it, is a very good one. I used a similar approach in my paper, defending the violence in the movie as part of an artistic masterpiece created by Stanley Kubrick. I am going to try to watch Triumph of the Will again since it is such a significant film.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Jesus- Yeah, man. “Triumph of the Will” is a tough film to watch unless you’re like SUPER interested in the cinematographic aspects of it. In all honesty, you’re probably going to fall asleep again. I watched it in segments because I couldn’t stay up. A funny story about “A Clockwork Orange”, I don’t know if you dug this up in your research, but the film doesn’t stay true to the book. They decided to take out the last chapter of the book, which is probably the most important, and that changed the whole meaning of the plot. ACO book is really about how people like Alex an change, but the film makes him out to be an unchangeable monster.

  28. Jesus, I agree with you. I’m not a writer, and I know that, but this paper was a real challenge. It was very confusing. But honestly, if I had to choose between project one and project two, I would prefer project two in a heart beat. It was a tough paper to write but I learned so much more from project two. Movies are all around us and it would help to know and understand the controversies surrounding them and why they exist. I wish they gave us more samples though, because having to write it from scratch is really hard, but if you have more examples you kind of have a base line of what you have to do to write a good paper.

I agree that project two was a lot more enjoyable to work on versus project one. I also agree that the Rogerian Argument styled format helped me see both sides of the argument and helped me deviate from the one-sided argumentation style. Project two was easy and was very enjoyable to work on. It helped me learn to balance both sides of the argument and not take my views as the best without giving the other side their due credit. I would also like to agree with you on your last statement saying that all students should do it once. It is a learning experience and will help students become better writers.

Well I'm glad that you also think that Project II helped you become a better writer. The only gripe I had in the beginning with it was, I didn't want to write about the other side. When I actually started writing though, I actually agreed with the other argument on some of the issues that came up which was really strange for me. Overall, as I said previously, I really enjoyed Project II and felt the Rogerian argument helped me see other arguments more clearly and not cast them down because I don't agree with them. I agree with you that it is a learning experience and it will help students that have never written a Rogerian style paper before have more "colors" in their writing palette.

  31. @astrid. I absolutely agree with you on the fact that this project developed and progressed us as writers. After writing a completely foreign formatted paper, I feel that I progressed a lot. I also agree with the fact that you have never spent as much time as you did talking about the opposing side before. I don't recall ever doing a paper that talks about the opposition more in depth than this one. As a matter of fact, I don't believe that I have ever written a paper talking about the opposing side before. So this project was a completely new project that I was absolutely unfamiliar with and I believe that is the sole purpose to why I progressed as a writer after this project.

I totally understand where you are coming from with the movie. I only knew like two films as well. That is good to know the project was getting easier as you were exploring the project. I know it takes a while to learn a whole new form of writing especially when you have never heard of it. Passion of the Christ? I don't know, that movie to me seemed like it would be a challenge to write a Rogerian Argument on. I feel like I would have to watch that movie multiple times just to actually get the movie. Glad the project worked out! (:

I really liked project 2 as well, even though I also found it hard to watch my movie at times. As I started to understand the movie though, it was a little easier to continue watching.
It is very cool to be able to view things from different points of view. It has happened to me with books, movies, and just real-life situations. Allowing yourself to look at things differently does help you as a writer, especially in a project like this where you're trying to make an argument work. It was definitely hard to not bash out the opposing side, but after this project it will be much easier.

Same here, I never heard of a rogerian argument until he announced it in class. The project was harder than project 1 because we had to defend the other side, but it did help me out on becoming a better writer because of the fact that we had to present both sides of the argument because it forces you to be aware of what others believe. I liked the fact that we were able to watch Natural Born Killers in class because that was a great example for a movie, and nice time to kill, also the fact that we got to chose what movie was a plus.

  35. I agree. I'm glad we got to do this project because I plan to minor in some form of writing after my Comp I professor recommended it and i'm glad to be introduced to different forms of writing besides the classical form. I'm especially glad we had the opportunity to do the assignment on films as opposed to controversial issues like those with other professors. I think it adds excitement to the project, especially if we actually enjoyed the movie. The assignment also allowed me to think on a more global perspective instead a personal one. I had to think, why would this be offensive to others?

  36. @Jackelyn: The whole movie thing I get, because those movies were unfamiliar to me also. Project Two was easier for me because it was on film, but I also had to write about Passion of the Christ, which was hard for me. It was challenging because of the opposing side, and I did not have enough argumentation. You and I were on the same page of choosing the movie, because I did not most of the other ones, and I sort of remembered Passion of Christ.

I agree with Eric that this project was easier than project one and I also enjoyed picking a movie that I was able to watch several times to do my paper. It was not boring because I like watching movies and I am glad that this assignment was more entertaining than the first one. I was able to view different sides of an argument and this project taught me more of what a rogerian argument is about. Overall I like this project very much because we were able to watch movies to do the project and it was way better than the first one.

I agree with you that project two was a lot more enjoyable and helpful to us than project one. Like you, I feel that this project helped us better strengthen our argument because we had to present both side of it and if we expected the reader to agree with us our argument had to be much stronger. In addition, I also feel that I will use this type of writing style in the future so that I can have a better argument. The reason why I feel that this project was more enjoyable was because we got to choose our topic.
