A Tough Question

Since the death of James Berlin, there have been very few advocates for social epistemic pedagogy.  To what would you attribute to this decline in popularity and what merit, if any, does social epistemic pedagogy still carry in the 21st century?

Ha ha, just kidding.  What'd you do over spring break?  As usual, 250 word post up by Thursday night (03/24) and 100 word response up by Sunday night (03/27).

  1. What did I do over spring break? I did awesome spring break stuff of course! I honestly went to bed at 4 A.M. and woke up at 2 P.M. laid outside by my pool, and went swimming. Played masses of videogames and did not look at any homework until the weekend before we came back to school. I was the epitome of lazy over spring break. My parents tried to get me to do house work, or chores, and I looked at them and laughed as I replied, “I’m on spring break!” (This of course did not work, because they then counter replied saying “That’s great, we worked all day and if you want to eat tonight you’ll to the things we tell you to do) Now being the broke college student that I am, how could I refuse? (Food is not cheap) On that note, I also cooked dinner for my family, on most of the nights over spring break, and since I enjoy cooking (of which I cannot do at school) I enjoyed cooking dinner for my family. I just hate cleaning up the dishes after I am done though, worst part. Along with these fun and exciting things, my roommate stayed half a week at my house over spring break, and we did nothing but be lazy, and it was stellar. So all in all, my spring break was laziness together with relaxation, which was a much-needed break from the stresses of school

  2. My spring break was nearly perfect. My best friend Sky and I drove to Orlando to visit his super hippie (his mom is the nicest woman on earth, and if you disagree I’ll fisticuff you) parents and we ended up finding a restaurant with probably the best burger I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy. It has this sauce which can only be described as Zeus’ tears; crushed up potato chips; REAL FORKING BEEF, not the USDA cardboard sad excuse for a piece of meat; the finest cheese. It’s fair to say that the burger is like a saucy meaty orgasm (that sounds SO WRONG). I was fittin’ to cut the restaurant out from its locale and bring it to Tampa so that everybody could enjoy this miracle, but that plan was short lived. On Monday night, we drove to DeLand (a.k.a East Jesus nowhere bum fuck Egypt small town in the middle of Florida that’s cohabitated by old people, good ol’ down-south boys and college students) to visit my best friend for his birthday. He’s a member of some stereotypical douche fraternity (although I will admit, the smaller the town is, the less douchey the brothers get), and obviously he made me drink. I politely ask that he buy me six-pack of Guinness (because I didn’t want to drink, and mostly because I have a good taste in beer) and the asshole gopher that got me my beer bought draft… If you’ve ever had Guinness, you know that you buy stout and that draft is piss water; and not like Bud Light piss water… that’s drinkable. This beer was so repulsive I was FORCED to drink BL and Miller High Life. So by this point, I’m pissed off because I’m surrounded by fratboys and bad beer, so I tell Kevin (a.k.a Birfday Boy) to pull out the bottle of Blue Label that we had gotten him for his previous birthday. We all take one shot. I cringe. Sky whelps. Kevin giggles. We put the bottle away and instead pull out a half empty bottle of blueberry vodka that had been sitting in his dresser for about a year now. Safe to say that within one hour we finished it entirely, and most of the fratboys had left because two or three mildly attractive women had come in the door, and they were ready to perform their mating calls and pounce. Sky and myself were planning to drive back to St. Cloud (another EJN BFE small town), but obviously we were in no condition to drive (we have very strict morals about D-D’ing, and we’ll incapacitate anyone that tries to operate a motor vehicle while annihilated). We longboard for a bit, fail at that, and instead just revel in our drunken stupor. 6 A.M. I wake up, and I’m sprawled on an unfolded futon with Sky’s legs on my face. From the look of it, we 69’d or something of the sort. I throw him off of me and he wakes up. We both feel like we got mauled by extremely angry bears. I get up. Nausea hits me like a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick straight to the groin. I walk out into the hall, and the lights abuse my sensitive retinas as I make a sad attempt to get water from the drinking fountain. We decide to leave Stetson and go back to St. Cloud. It’s 7 now, and as we drove east on I-4, the most spectacular sunrise I’ve ever seen makes its way up from behind our Ford Crown Vic. Fast forward to Thursday, we’re in Miami now, South Beach. Took us about an hour to find parking, but we managed to shove the car in some hole in the wall valet parking spot that charged us way too much. The longboards come out and we make our way to Ocean Dr. The day is beautiful and we skate all over South Beach, pretty girls and a guido/orange guys are everywhere. Good day. Fast forward again, this time to Sunday. Sky, my roommate Greg, a friend, and I drive down to St. Pete to take out small sailboats (13 foot FJ 40’s). We sail for about an hour, I let Greg skipper and he capsizes the boat. I do some quick damage control and we sail to a secluded beach north of the harbor. The beach is perfect, the sun is hot and Spring Break ended perfectly.

  3. I cant really complain about my spring break. I didn't do much like I planned, but it was nice to get the whole week off from work. Good thing I put the request in early. Anyways, lets see I left on Friday and for my weekend I only stayed home. Most of my friends were working and their spring break was already over. The weekend flew and I spend time with my mom before she had to go to work. Things got exciting when Monday came around. Monday I was being productive and went to my community college to find out what I needed to do for spring term. After I went home and waited for my good friend Crystal to come by. She came like around nine and invited me to go with her and her family to Downtown Disney to just walk around and catch up. Sadly, since there was like seven people going, I had no choice but to take my car. I figured it would be fine because I got an oil change no less than a week before. Boy was I wrong. I was talking to Crystal's brother and was telling him that I had a feeling that my car was acting funny. No less than ten seconds later my car started smoking! Take a wild guess what happened? The car had no oil what so ever. Guess my car had a leak. Great. Long story short I had to put oil in my car and drive home and wait till the next day to take it to my mechanic. I didn't get my car till like Wednesday, that was my Monday. On the other hand I was able to go to the beach, some theme parks, eat A LOT of food and catch up on my sleep. This spring break is just a reminder that summer is around the corner.AHH I can't wait. Now that is going to be a story to tell. (:

  4. My spring break was amazing :). I went home on Friday night but I had to wake up very early the next morning because I had a hair appointment. Then when I got back I slept until Sunday afternoon. Anyone who knows me knows that my favorite thing to do (after eating of course) is sleeping. Anyway Monday Wednesday and Friday were days I set aside to spend with my very best friend during the day. It was so great. It was the best time I’ve ever spent with them and I wouldn’t trade those memories for the world. On Tuesday I spent most of the day with my hilarious 4’11 grandma. We watched family feud, the young and the restless and maury and then I helped her cook. It was great spending time with her. But things took a worse on Tuesday evening because when I was leaving to go to the mall I realized that my car had a flat tire. I had someone change the tire and then I drove to an auto shop and they plugged the hole. Then I went on my merry way to the mall. Then when I approached the stoplight I heard a loud noise. When I opened my car door I saw that the same tire was once again flat. So I drove to my uncle’s house on a donut where he taught me how to change a tire, which made my night a little better. My last night of spring break was spent playing scrabble with my dad and little brother and then we watched a jet le kung fu movie. I loved being around my family and friends and I did not want to come back to school but then again who does?

  5. My Spring Break for USF wasn't what I planned it to be. On the day before Spring Break I got a stomach virus and it progressively got worse the next day (first day of Spring Break). Along with USF, I also go to HCC and I had 2 tests that week. I had to go to school even though I wasn't feeling that well. I normally never get sick because of my diet and I am into bodybuilding but nevertheless I got A+'s on both of my tests so I was happy. Having a stomach virus really wasn't the best way to be sick. I would've rather had the common cold instead of a virus because the only thing I could drink the first day I got it was Green Tea. Regular water actually upset my stomach more which was really weird because normally I drink about a gallon and a half of water every day. I couldn’t eat any solid food. At least I am better now, and my Spring Break for HCC is next week so it will be nice because I don't need to drive all the way to Hillsborough after USF and I can finally enjoy the Spring Break that I planned on having. I don’t really plan on doing much for my Spring Break for HCC. I just hope I won’t get sick again. That is extremely unlikely to happen but I don’t want to jinx it just yet. So hopefully I can enjoy at least one of my Spring Breaks. I feel lucky that I get two.

  6. Probably the greatest spring break I have experienced thus far in my life. I went to Philadelphia for the first time with my friend Tim and I got to do a lot of things that I have never done before. First of all I got to get a Philly cheese steak which was amazing. Then we went and played roller hockey which I never played before. By far one of the best sports to play even though I was terrible. Also I discovered the wonders of WAWA. This gas station is not an ordinary gas station; it is a fast food place that makes great hoagies for a very low price. After a couple days in his hometown we went to Altoona for a couple days. Those couple days, I’m pretty much speechless on what occurred over those days. Then March Madness started and we watched most of the games. My bracket went to shit after Michigan state lost. The best way to explain this spring break is that I experienced a lot of firsts during this trip. Philadelphia is one of the greatest cities I have been able to visit. The weather was amazing not to cold but not to hot although I was looking forward to seeing a little bit of snow. One of my favorite moments from this trip was going to downtown Philly where I got to run up the rocky steps. I looked like the biggest tourist but I felt like I had to do it. While everybody looked at me I sprinted up the steps, and when I got to the top I put my hands in the air and started pretend to punch things. I wish I could post a video of it on here because it was quite the sight.

  7. Parents didn't want me at home, so I stayed in my room. Most places to eat on campus were all closed, so I lived on yogurt and frozen burritos for the most part. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I had an insane amount of time on my hands. Because I will probably start working as an RA in May, I started working on my bulletin boards and themes for the whole year. I spent some time with the current RAs on spring break duty and got some insight into what I needed to be doing and what kind of bulletin boards I should start creating.
I also decided to explore the basics of class I will be taking during the summer, so I used the textbook and the internet to teach myself integration, which is the biggest part of calculus II. I feel more prepared now for what I hear is the most challenging math class I will have to take in my entire college career.
I believe I left my room a total of six times in the past eight days.
Due to my irregular sleep schedule, I re-discovered the joys of Adult Swim, which I hadn't watched since my sophomore year of high school. It just so happens that if you fall asleep with Adult Swim on the tv, you will have some VERY strange dreams. I seriously suggest anyone to try it.

This is a very detailed description of my last week, but since I didn't do anything exciting, I had to elaborate on stuff that you guys really wouldn't care about... And to fill up the word count requirement: don't forget to start choosing your classes now because registration starts on the 28th!

  8. Spring Break was great because I not only got to go home to see my family and friends in Philadelphia, but one of my friends from USF, who happens to be in this very class, came with me to see the sights and the wonders of Philadelphia. The very first day we landed I showed him the traditional sights like the Liberty Bell and the Art Museum steps made famous in the scene where Rocky Balboa ran up them while training for his fight against Apollo Creed in "Rocky". It also helped that my sister is a former carriage driver in the city who used to give tours so she commandeered a horse and carriage to give Ryan a short tour of the city. The rest of the week was filled with showing Ryan the wonders of the north like Wawa, a better 711, and hockey. We indulged in both various times before and after we visited Penn State for a few days to visit my girlfriend. It was not as cold as I intended which made the trip even better because generally it is not too warm in march in Philadelphia. After returning from Penn State we returned home where relaxing was the name of the game. Sleeping until noon and sitting around having home cooked meals was a relaxation that I missed early. Andos and Argos do not compare to the meals my mother makes. Overall the break was a relaxation I desperately needed and greatly appreciated.

  9. @Astrid- As someone who had a similar experience when they stayed at school for Thanksgiving break, I understand the boredom that you suffered through. The campus must think that everyone returns home for every break although that is not at all the case. With dining halls and everything else closed on campus, if you find yourself without a car, like myself, then you really are screwed. It is good that you had at least some school work to fill your time because otherwise TV gets pretty boring after the first few days. The insane amounts of boredom really get old after a while and I am completely sympathetic to your break of boredom.

  10. Over my spring break I mostly hung out with my friends from my high school and had a great time just chilling out and talking about life. We went to a lot of places such as the mall, bowling, Dave and Buster’s, the movies, and each other’s houses. I also went to the beach a lot and tried to get a tan but unfortunately I failed to be a little darker than before. Other times I would go shopping with my mom to buy more summer clothes since it is warmer now and I would go out to eat sushi with her and have a mother and daughter bonding moment. I also bonded with my dad and my brother by watching UFC and going to the movies with them and I had fun too. Most of the time I just chilled out, kicked back on my couch, and watch a marathon of How I Met Your Mother through a french website because I borrowed my friend’s season 1 pack and finished it but I just had to know what happens next. Overall my spring break was great because I got to reconnect with my old friends and know their updates about their exciting college lives. My friends surprised me of how much they changed but it is not so bad because I still enjoyed their company. I also enjoyed spending time with my family and I am so glad I was able to relax from my busy and stressful time at school.

  11. Over spring break I visited my mom, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Long Beach California. I had planned on getting there Saturday morning but unfortunately my flight was very early and I accidentally slept through it. In my defense it was at 5 in the morning and my plans to stay up all night ended at about 2. When I finally got to California I was greeted with much love from my little eleven year old cousin and my mom. Most of my week was filled with great food, video games, and practicing/attempting breakdancing moves and other tricks. I fell a lot and got hurt a lot but I always jumped back up and kept at it.
I spent most of the days in my moms apartment while she was at work. That meant I was cooped up in an apartment with limited tv channels, no wi-fi, and a lot of room. I used that room to try different handstand stalls, freezes, tricks, and work on my balance. Being on the second floor every time I fell hard it was loud, very loud. I could only imagine what the people around her apartment were thinking with the random bangs, thumps, and groans of pain they would hear every once in a while.
The one thing I love about California is their food. There is so much diverse culture there, which means, AMAZING Korean barbeque. Along with that there was the closest thing we could get to authentic Chinese food without leaving the country almost every day. Finally the greatest part of my journey had to have been at Half and Half tea house where I got my amazing drink with chocolate milk, pudding and honey boba!
Still as much as I loved eating out at all these different places my uncle and cousin love to talk about. I think that my favorite meals of spring break had to have been the ones that I cooked for myself and the ones that my mom cooked for us. Nothing beats a home cooked meal every once in a while.

  12. For spring break 2011, I didn’t do awesome spring break stuff like everyone else did. Lol I was at home with my parents until we had to take my father to the hospital because his recent heart surgery had major complications. He had pneumonia, on top of a black lung, and a bad heart. It was a tough week for me, because the doctor said that he was in a pretty bad shape. He stayed in the hospital from Monday through Saturday, so my days consisted of driving to the hospital, going home, cooking, cleaning, and occasionally staying the night at the hospital to watch over my dad. On top of that, I had nothing to complain about, because my dad is still alive- luckily, and I was there for my parents when they needed me the most.
(I don’t really have anything else to talk about this past week, and I can’t complete the 250 words requirement, so I’ll just respond to someone else’s post.)

Astrid- as bad as this sound, I’m jealous that you had all that time in your hands. Lol I just want three days without having to worry about any homework or papers due, but rather go on with my day thinking about the things that I should do to keep me busy. I had so much things that I wanted to do over the break, but unfortunately did not have any time at all to do any of those things. But that’s okay, that’s what this summer is going to be all about. I’m excited for you about being an RA next fall! Do you know which building you will be staying at?

  13. Screw it. I had something really nice about my spring break then I tried posting it with out using a word doc, and behold an error. Tried to go back and recover a good 30min of writing and.. poof its gone. Ill summarize my spring break. It was a to do list that had me jumping through fiery hoops into a shark infested pool with shrimp hanging around my waist. Lesson learned though. If you are going to get wheels powder coated. Don't. Just don't. Heres the logistics involved: Take wheel off vehicle and trade it for a spare. Take tire to tire shop to remove tire, and have them take the TPMS tire pressure monitoring system sensor off. Take rim to powder coater. Pick it up several days later while driving toy tires. Find a place that will mount them and balance them. Note, I only found one that could do it with out scratching the pant. Most places will look at the rims and tell you no, as they will scratch them. Once its all done, put them on and repeat. I found by putting a vehicle on cinder blocks people get very offended to its appearance and towing will be inevitable. By not telling them to eat shit and die will extend the days that your vehicle will still be there in the morning. That is all I will write about that. Anyways it was an ok spring break.

  14. For spring break I really wanted to do spring break-y stuff, like go to the pool and the beach all week, but I couldn't. All but one of my friends go to HCC and their spring break is this week.. so having only one person to hang out with that week, I managed to make it to the beach once. It was a good beach day though, despite the very weird sunburn I got (one big spot on my back that I didn't get sunblock on because I couldn't reach!) Besides that I stayed home with my dog, did some chores, went to sleep late, slept in, did some more chores, watched a whole lot of tv, and went to work. I think if it wasn't for work I would've been way too bored. Oh, and my mom made me go to the gym with her a few times because I had to "make good use of my time". I also had to work on a project for my statistics class but I kept postponing for "tomorrow", so I ended up finishing it during the last couple of days of spring break.
The best part about my spring break, however, was becoming legal.. age wise, that is. I got to spend some time with my family and stuff myself with "tres leches" cake. My friends also decided to throw me some kind of birthday party (which was also a going away party for another friend), so I got to spend some time with a whole bunch of friends I hadn't seen in a while, which was great.

  15. For spring break, I finally got the whole week off work. Without school and work, I needed the vacation very badly. I spent two nights in Sarasota at the beach and saw friends I haven’t seen in a while. I do not usually enjoy the beach, sand, humidity, and all that comes along with it, but this spring break I did. It was perfect. There was a breeze that prevented us from getting to hot. We rented jet skis, which ended up forcing me to go swimming in the ocean. Although I came back with bruises from being thrown off the jet skis, they were a lot of fun. We went out to fun, beach restaurants on the water. There are lots outlets mall that have stores we do not in Tampa. My mom and I went shopping a few times.
On the way back to Tampa, I spent the night at FGCU. One of my best friends goes to Florida Gulf Coast and is in a frat. The night I was there, they had a party and I saw many of my friends, I have not seen since high school. I enjoy staying in Fort Myers.

The rest of my vacation was relaxing. I went golfing and got many hours of sleep. I helped my parents move into there new home. That was how I spent my Friday and Saturday, however I am not complaining. Sunday was one of the most exciting days of break. I went to Heaven. After of two and a half hours, of wondering through IKEA, I was finally pleased with the ending of Spring Break.

  16. My spring break was much needed, I pretty much relaxed and hung out with my friends back home without having to worry about school work at all. So my first night home I went and played poker with my friends and ended up winning $40. On Monday I visited my old high school and brought some of my friends Chipotle for lunch and caught up with some of my old teachers. Tuesday I went to the mall with a two of my friends and ate lunch and browsed around. Wednesday a couple of my friends and I had a fail attempt in trying to get people to go play some basketball at the park. Later that night I went to a Heat game with a friend of mine and his dad. Thursday was pretty much a chill day where I was just sitting around the house watching March Madness, at night I went to my friends and I went to a friend’s house and chilled. Friday I had a dentist appointment which told to me the night before which ruined my plans on going down to south beach for the day, but anyways at night I went to the Hard Rock with one of my friends and went to play poker with the money I had won my first night. Within the first 20 minutes I had $75, but then got harassed by the old people who sit there with more money than the buy in and lost it all -_-… Saturday I went to a sports bar with my friends, a few who just came in that night for their spring break, and watched the 2nd round of March Madness and the UFC fights. It was great to be back home.

  17. Danie, thats awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed Fort Myers. I'm from Cape Coral, so I know all about that place. lol How come a lot of high school friends were there? Were you from around that area?

Eric, I'm glad you got to enjoy your spring break! Honestly, I wish I could have done all those awesome stuff. Sleep late and wake up in the afternoon, and have nothing better to do but play videogames and anything that you please. (Jealous face inserted here) As much as I do not like to spend time playing videogames, I would have loved to sit for hours and play sims or something. Lol

I’m glad everyone enjoyed their break, make this summer even a better one. =)

  18. Over Spring Break, I worked at my dad's store, and helped out at home. The most interesting thing I did over the break was go to Miami and hang out with friends. Other than that, my break was boring and I studied. There is a card game called 28 and since my grandparents were home, my brother, grandpa, mom and I played cards, and spent most of our nights in the house. I am glad for break to be over, because I can at least chill with friends here. At home, I worked and inquired at the college about summer classes and school stuff. Also, my dad and I went to West Palm to look at cars for next fall. I am very excited about getting a new car, and an apartment. My mom and I went shopping and we bought a lot of things for the house and clothes for cousins. The most enjoyable part about the break was probably going to Miami, because we all went to the beach and hung out. I got a crazy tan from the beach, and never want to get that dark again. At Miami, we visited my dad’s friend, and went to the movies, and chilled there for a while. Our day in Miami ended with all of us playing basketball and tennis outside in the courts. After that day, I would watch movies on the Starz channels and relax all day, which I have been needing to do since college started.

  20. I went home for my spring break. It was the first time I saw my parents in two months, so it was very nice. Many of my high school friends had their spring break the week before, so I did not spend as much time with them as I wanted. Since I had a very busy week with three midterms and one essay due, all I did as soon as I got home was jump in my bed and pass out until the next day. It was a very relaxed week, I got to sleep without interruption during the day and go out during the night. The highlights of my spring break, in chronological order, have to be watching the UFC fights with my best friend, going to Daytona with my friends, going to the beach with my family, and hanging out with old friends that I had not seen in a long time. The day that I spent in Daytona was probably the best of my spring break. I spent the whole day at the beach and then when clubbing with some friends from USF at night. It was a lot better than St. Patrick’s Day, which I thought was going to be the best day in my spring break. Overall, it was a nice break from homework and exams, but it is over now and I have to focus on finishing this semester with good grades. By the way, I am really mad that Shogun got beat up by Jon Jones.

  21. @Thomas:
It must have been awesome to spend time just relaxing and without much to bother you. Your parents seem to be very supportive, which isn't very common (at least where I come from), and your family seems very lively. Take advantage of that as much as you can since you don't spend that much time at home. It sounds like you really enjoyed all of the relaxation.
But unfortunately, now it's time to get back into class mode and get this last month of school over with. Next thing you know, you'll be home again to play cards and watch all of the movies you want on tv, until next fall starts anyway... Unless you take some summer classes, but generally those fly by very quickly. I hope you do well, you have a lot going for you. :)

  22. So how was my spring break? This year I did something that I had never ever done before and that was to do community service. Instead of going out and partying like I had always done before I chose to go to Immokalee for alternative spring break. I volunteered at a daycare, an elementary school, habitat for humanity and at a homeless shelter. During the first day of my stay here I honestly regretted having chosen to come here instead of going to Miami because it seemed as though there was nothing to do but by the second day I began to gain more interest and started noticing a lot of the problems that this town had. What I found more interesting about Immokalee was how hard the people worked but ended up with almost nothing. Most of the people who lived here were immigrants from Hispanic or Haitian descent. On average each person would work about twelve hours and would make less than sixty dollars a day. Because of these long work days the parents would rarely be able to see their kids and this affected them quite a bit, which we were able to see when we visited Highlands elementary. For example, when I first walked up to the kids and began to play with three of the kids kept asking me to be their daddy because theirs was never around to play with them. The thing I did enjoy the most out of my spring break was when I volunteered at the homeless shelter because we would go out on the streets and hand out food to the people which would make them very happy.

I not too long ago had the stomach virus and I remember the experience too well. It basically sucked so I can kind of relate to what you went through. Even though I could eat crackers with my tea. I hated not being able to go out when I had it, but I think I got it around a weekend so I didn’t miss a major break like you did. But the bright side is that you do have another chance to do your spring break right. Lucky you. Im sure you’ll live it up because you were sick for the most of USF’s spring break.

Smart thing for actually being free from school and work! I had to put my request weeks in advance. I miss going to Sarasota beach, me and my family use to go there every summer it was considered to be our family beach. Jet skis sound so much fun maybe one day I will be brave enough to try it by myself. I didn't know there was outlets by Sarasota, I always go to the outlets in Orlando I don't live too far from them. Lost in IKEA? That is something I never heard of (sarcastic tone). I think it is ridiculous how they set up that place. You have no choice but to go around the entire store and see everything! Well it sounds like your spring break was fun. Glad to hear that! (:

I am sorry to hear about your car. It sounds like all the trouble I have had with my car within the last few weeks. I agree when you said that spring break was just a reminder of how summer is going to be. I can hardly wait till summer time. I went to the beach over break and the weather was so beautiful. I cannot wait to spend most of my summer at the beach and going to theme parks. Hopefully like we had time off of work over break, we will be able to take some time off work again for summer.

That sucks that your parents didn't want to see you for Spring Break. At least you started on your homework though and got ahead. I was sick all Spring Break and I couldn't do anything either. Sometimes when I am bored I also do some homework/something school related and low and behold it is already 3 hours later and I'm like "wtf, I can't believe I've been doing homework for that long lol". Luckily for me though, I also play 3 musical instruments so that can take up ALOT of time.

What you did over spring break was very awesome. There are definitely many, many kids who have to go through their days without seeing their parents very much. I actually used to be one of those kids, but luckily things changed for me and my family.
Helping others in need is very rewarding. Every summer when I go to colombia my mom and I help out some of the people in town where she's from with food, clothes, and sometimes even toys for the kids. Its not much, but it does make them very happy :) Doing things like these make vacations even more rewarding

  28. @jesusafv. I did the same exact thing as you did. It has been awhile since I have seen the folks and it was great. Also the same exact thing happened to me with the whole spring break dilemma. My friends had their spring breaks a week earlier than I did so I could not see any of my friends from high school. So my spring break wasn't as fun as I thought it would be, but overall it wasn't that bad. It's just you go back from college expecting to see your friends from high school that you haven't seen in months and you can't because their spring break has already passed. I just feel for the HCC students because they have their spring breaks soon so they probably feel the same way. But overall my spring break was almost the same as yours with the parents and friends.

I have to say that I do miss Pennsylvania and city of Philadelphia. My brother graduated from Temple University so I was in Philly a lot. Unfortunately he lived close to south street, so I was exposed the dark side of Philly. We actually moved my brother out of his apartment because the person above him was shot in the head over a drug deal gone wrong. On a lighter note, I am envious of your trip and wish I could visit the city again. If I would have went I would have loved to have a good old-fashioned Philly cheese steak, the real version, not the botched up southern version. All in all looks like you had a good trip.

I’m glad that you had a fun, relaxing spring break. My spring break was pretty much like yours just relaxing, having fun with friends, and watching a UFC fight. I was also glad to get away from the hectic schoolwork and just be worry free from responsibilities. I also went clubbing and to the beach with my friends and it was so much fun hanging out with them because it has been a long time since we got together. I am so glad that I was able to spend time with family and friends and I had such a fun break.

  31. @Paula There is nothing better than having a week to just hang out with old friends from high school. Although I did something completely different for my spring break, when I have a break of any sort, I love to spend it with my old friends and just catch up. Also I have been getting into how I met your mother, I never watched it before but over the break my friend Tim, who is also in this class, got me into the show. One thing that you were not able to do that I was able to is getting tan. When I was not in Philly, I was usually by the pool getting my tan on.

  32. @Jacklyn: I didn't really do anything during Spring Break, and it was boring. With what you said about your father, I am sorry to hear that. There is nothing else to agree with except the boring break, unlike everyone else's. I hope that things are well, and do well. My grandpa has a back problem, and he is having lung problems because of his smoking and drinking. We had to take care of him at home, and decrease his drinking.

  33. @Daniella(:. I remember when I used to go to Downtown Disney with my friends to simply walk around. I can’t believe I walked that place so many times. I am sorry to hear about your car, I would have been pretty mad if it had happened to me. I wanted to register for summer classes at the Community College from back home, but they told me that I needed approval from USF before I could do so. They also told me that I couldn’t register online so probably by the time that I go home again with all the paperwork, the classes that I need are not going to have any seats available. I am also looking forward to the summer even if it means working and taking classes at my Community College for the majority of the time. It will be like going to the beach on my free days and hanging out with my friends.

  34. @errybody- I’m glad ya’ll enjoyed your springs breaks. I skimmed through most of the posts and it seems like everyone had a real good time or did relatively productive things. At the moment I’m dealing with an emergency that sprung up (or rather prayed onto) my suite’s carpet so that’s why I posted a little late. @Daniella, I’m sorry your car broke down, that doesn’t sound like good news bears or a fun time at all, but by the looks of it, your spring break had its redemption. Regardless, I’m glad everyone had fun. I gotta finish cleaning this carpet so peace!

  35. @Carlos That...sounds...crazy. Just down right crazy. To have a spring break like that I would be exhausted. Some points were a little too descriptive but funny at the same time. Most mornings after nights like that are usually painful but it seems like the sunrise made up for it. How you ended up from an area like Deland one day to longboarding on south beach another day really amazes me how much driving was done over your break. Finally I've always wanted to longboard along a beach and just feel the breeze on my face, I bet it was a fun experience. I wish to get an opportunity like that in my future.

Sorry to hear about your car same thing happen to my sisters car but luckily my brother in law checked it and found that there was no oil in it. It sounds as though you still ended up having a lot of fun which is pretty good. I agree with you that spring break was just a reminder of how close summer is and about how much fun you can have with all the free time. Hopefully this summer I will be able to do some the same things that you did like go to theme parks and such since I have not been to one in like 6 months.
